MANCHIN HOSTS FIRST VIRTUAL LISTENING SESSION WITH REVEREND ENGLISH
Charleston, WV – On Friday evening, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) hosted a virtual listening session with Reverend Ronald English and other leaders in the faith community via Facebook Live. The listening session was the first of the From Hurt to Healing series that aimed to amplify African American voices and encouraged every West Virginian and American to think about how we can move forward toward an equal and more just society.
“I am grateful to have had Reverend Ronald English join me tonight for a productive conversation about how we can move forward from this painful time toward a more just society. Like many West Virginians, I have been heartbroken by the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many other African American men and women. The organized demonstrations in communities across the country make it clear: what we have been doing to address the systemic racism in our country is not enough. In the last few weeks, I’ve thought a great deal about what I can do to promote positive change. One important thing I can do is to listen to our African American neighbors and do my part to amplify their voices. I will continue to do just that,” Senator Manchin said.

Charleston, WV – Today U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) praised the announcement of $25 million in funding for the Wheeling Streetscape Project. “It is great to see Wheeling finally receive the funding needed to complete the Wheeling Streetscape Project to revitalize their downtown area with safety and utility upgrades and changes to help attract new businesses. I have supported this project for years, and have worked closely with Mayor Elliott to get this across the finish line. Last year, I spoke with Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Elaine Chao directly about the importance of this project. I am pleased this project is receiving that support from the WVDOT,” Senator Manchin said. “When completed, this project will boost Wheeling’s economy, draw in small businesses, and spur economic development throughout the area. I look forward to visiting the new and improved downtown Wheeling and will continue to work with the citizens of Wheeling to ensure they receive the help needed to complete this great project.”

MANCHIN QUESTIONS VA ON VETERAN TESTING ISSUES AND CLARKSBURG VAMC INVESTIGATION
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) questioned Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert Wilkie and Dr. Richard Stone, Executive in Charge of the Veterans Health Administration on Veterans having issues with receiving and paying for drive-through and mobile COVID-19 testing as well as an update on the Clarksburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) investigation into the deaths of up to 11 Veterans in 2018.
“Veterans are having a hard time, they’re confused about the testing, they’re told they have to pay for it or being preapproved and going through all the red tape. Have you been able to work through that to clarify this for them to make sure that our Veterans can get tested as needed?” Senator Manchin said, “On the VA in Clarksburg, it’s been two years… do you see any end in sight? These families being left in limbo is awful.”
