SENATOR MANCHIN SUPPORTS THE GREAT AMERICAN OUTDOORS ACT ON THE SENATE FLOOR
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Ranking Member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, took to the Senate floor to discuss the Great American Outdoors Act before the Senate voted 80-17 to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill. In March, Senator Manchin introduced this bipartisan legislation that provides mandatory permanent and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addresses the $21 billion maintenance backlog in national parks and other federal land management agencies.
“The Great American Outdoors Act will create jobs while protecting and expanding access to the great outdoors across our country for everyone, whether that be hunting, fishing, or hiking in the Monongahela National Forest or rafting down the Gauley River, just to give a few examples from my home state of West Virginia,” Ranking Member Manchin said. “We have broad bipartisan support with 60 Senators signing on, which is representative of how important this bill is to every state. This is a shining example of Democrats and Republicans coming together to put politics aside to do what is best for conserving the natural resources of this great nation. Passage of this bill will be a historic achievement, and I believe this will be one of the most significant conservation bills ever enacted into law. I urge all of my colleagues to join me in voting yes to invoke cloture and begin consideration of the Great American Outdoors Act.”

In case you missed it: SENATE PASSES MANCHIN'S PPP LOAN DEADLINE EXTENSION
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed by unanimous consent a bill to extend the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness period from 8 to 24 weeks and amend the rehire date from June 30th to December 31st. This is consistent with Senator Manchin’s PPP DEAL Act which would also extend the coverage period for the loan forgiveness program and amend the rehire date. The bill that passed the Senate today also gave small businesses the flexibility they need to rehire and reopen in accordance with state and local regulations by lifting the arbitrary 25% cap on non-payroll expenses to 40% and clarifying that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is an allowable expense. Senator Manchin has strongly advocated for both of these changes in response to concerns he heard from impacted West Virginia businesses.
“I’m glad the Senate has finally passed this bipartisan and commonsense proposal to extend the PPP forgiveness period, change the rehire date, and adjust the arbitrary 25% cap. These changes come at no additional cost to taxpayers and provide additional flexibility for small business owners as they adapt to doing business in the era of COVID-19. I am proud to have helped lead the fight to make these commonsense changes that should provide West Virginians more opportunity to get back on their feet and bring employees back in a timeframe that suits their business needs,” Senator Manchin said.
MANCHIN HOME MEALS ACT INTRODUCED IN U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Washington, DC – Today the Helping Our Most Elderly (HOME) Meals Act, introduced by U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) in the Senate last year, was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Members Filemon Vela (TX-34), John Katko (NY-24), and Lucy McBath (GA-6). Meals on Wheels (MOW) recently conducted a survey on the demand for home-based meal delivery systems, which highlights the need for Congress to increase funding programs across the country.
The bipartisan, bicameral HOME Meals Act would establish a competitive grant program to repair, replace, and customize home-based meal delivery vehicles that provide nutritious meals to seniors who are restricted to their homes for various reasons. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted seniors and has affected their ability to get food on their own, highlighting the need for home-based meal delivery systems.
“I am pleased my colleagues in the House of Representatives introduced the HOME Meals Act today. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation is vital to ensuring our seniors are taken care of and receive the home based nutrition they need. This system also provides seniors with social interaction, which many older Americans and West Virginians lack," said Senator Manchin. "The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on our nursing homes and other care facilities, but we must also look to our seniors who live at home independently who still need our help and care. I look forward to working with my bipartisan colleagues to pass this legislation in both chambers to send this to the President’s desk for signature so we can upgrade and repair our delivery vehicles to better help West Virginians and Americans across our nation receive the nutrition and care they need.”
MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE $1.4 MILLION FOR IAEGER WATER AND WASTE DISPOSAL MANAGEMENT
Washington, DC – Today U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,400,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the Town of Iaeger in McDowell County to provide sewer service to 295 West Virginians. This expansion will also work to improve water quality for Tug Fork and its tributaries, protecting local water supplies.
“I am pleased the USDA is investing in Iaeger and its citizens. These investments are essential to the health of our families and communities, and are also strong investments in West Virginia’s infrastructure. I look forward to the completion of this project to see the community and economic benefits for McDowell County and the citizens of Iaeger and will continue to fight for every community across the Mountain State to ensure they receive the support needed to upgrade our infrastructure and improve our communities,” said Senator Manchin.
