MANCHIN SECURES WEST VIRGINIA PRIORITIES IN FY21 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), secured provisions in the SASC markup of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21), a vital piece of legislation that authorizes defense funding and provides authorities for our military to defend the nation. On Wednesday, the SASC voted to report the NDAA to the full Senate. The FY21 NDAA authorizes $740.5 billion dollars including $636.4 billion for the Department of Defense (DoD), $25.9 billion for Department of Energy (DOE) national security programs, $8.15 billion for military construction, and $69 billion for Overseas Contingency Operations.
“As our nation continues to face threats at home and abroad, we must ensure our military is prepared to combat our nation’s enemies while maintaining fiscal responsibility,” Senator Manchin said. “This vital, bipartisan legislation includes necessary funding for our troops to defend America and provides support to West Virginia’s brave service members and other priorities across the state. I am pleased with our bipartisan efforts to include important provisions and West Virginia priorities, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to secure this significant legislation.”

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE $7.7 MILLION TO HELP WEST VIRGINIANS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $7,725,944 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Program through the CARES Act to assist West Virginians currently experiencing homelessness due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the daily life of every West Virginian, and many of our friends and neighbors have been hit hard. West Virginians currently experiencing homelessness deserve our support during these difficult times,” said Senator Manchin. “This funding will help those West Virginians get back on their feet and ensure they are taken care of during this terrible crisis. I will continue to fight for every West Virginian to have a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep, no matter their circumstances.”
MANCHIN APPLAUDS $196 MILLION FOR WEST VIRGINIA HOSPITALS THROUGH PROVIDER RELIEF FUND
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today applauded the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announcement of $10 billion in Provider Relief Fund payments with $196,971,716 for 13 West Virginia safety net hospitals that serve our most vulnerable citizens.
“Today 13 West Virginia hospitals received welcome news that they will be receiving $196 million from the HHS Provider Relief Fund to support hospitals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While this funding is a step in the right direction, we must continue to advocate for dedicated rural funding for our rural hospitals and rural healthcare providers who have been hit hard by the global health crisis,” Senator Manchin said. “West Virginia ranks sixth for the highest number of rural providers in the country receiving these funds, but despite that ranking we received the 29th highest payment for rural specific payments. That’s just plain wrong. My proposed formula would prioritize vulnerable populations, like our elderly West Virginians and would create dedicated rural funding for our hospitals and providers. As we continue to battle this pandemic, I will fight for every West Virginia healthcare provider to receive the support they need to provide quality care to West Virginians in need.” |
