MANCHIN ANNOUNCES $123K for COVID-19 CRISIS COUNSELING FOR WEST VIRGINIANS
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced $123,500 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help fund crisis counseling services for West Virginians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 27th, Senator Manchin requested FEMA provide this assistance to West Virginians through the Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP).
“Across our state, West Virginians are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and managing the effects of this crisis on our communities, family, friends, and loved ones. This can take a toll on people, which is why I urged FEMA last month to give West Virginians access to the support they need during this difficult and uncertain time. I am pleased that FEMA is supporting crisis counseling in our state and hope the services are utilized by West Virginians who need them,” Senator Manchin said.
MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE $5 MILLION FOR WEST VIRGINIA PUBLIC HEALTH, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $5,066,485 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) Public Health and Emergency Preparedness program.
“As we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we must make sure our first responders and healthcare providers have the support they need to work on the front lines of this crisis while staying as safe as possible. This funding for DHHR will ensure our state is prepared to respond to emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic and will help those fighting this global health crisis here in West Virginia. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding that helps our healthcare professionals as they care for their fellow West Virginians affected by this pandemic,” said Senator Manchin.

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today welcomed Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Jovita Carranza to Morgantown to highlight the impact of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) programs on West Virginia small businesses. Senator Manchin, Administrator Carranza, Regional Administrator Steve Bulger, small businesses, banks, and economic development stakeholders discussed the need to quickly implement critical changes to make these programs work for Main Street businesses. Senator Manchin invited Administrator Carranza to visit West Virginia last week.
“I was glad to welcome SBA Administrator Carranza to Morgantown today to see firsthand the challenges West Virginia small businesses face accessing PPP and EIDL funds and the impacts these programs have had on our small businesses. I am grateful that the SBA heeded my call to make changes to their application process, but more must be done to ensure our small businesses are able to access the funds meant to help them stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Senator Manchin. “Today’s roundtable with local businesses was helpful in understanding the issues West Virginia small businesses have dealt with while trying to access the PPP and EIDL funds and how the application process can be changed to create an easier process for businesses to apply. I will keep working with Administrator Carranza to improve the PPP and EIDL application processes to ensure small businesses have better access to the funds intended to help them through this crisis.”
