The COVID-19 pandemic has changed every aspect of our daily lives, including how Americans and West Virginians will be able to vote this year. The 2020 election is quickly approaching and West Virginians need access to accurate, reliable information on how to vote during these unprecedented times. This week I launched a voting resource page that compiles accurate facts on how to register to vote, polling locations, requesting an absentee ballot and more. Every eligible West Virginian should exercise their right to vote and have their voice heard this fall.

The deadline to respond is coming soon!

If we don’t respond to the Census, we will miss out on important federal funds that make our communities stronger. Every person in West Virginia that does not respond to the Census equates to $20,000 lost in federal funds for West Virginia and our communities over the next ten years. If 100 people do not respond, that's $2 MILLION lost in federal funds to West Virginia over the next ten years. We simply can’t afford that. So please, Be Counted and respond to the census today by visiting:

The sad fact is that many places in West Virginia simply do not have access to reliable broadband and the lack of access affects West Virginians every day. Back in 2015, the FCC released a coverage map that stated 99.9% of Americans had wireless coverage. I knew then what I know now: That is just plain wrong.

That’s why I’m asking all West Virginians to submit your internet speed-tests, so we can prove to the FCC that our broadband coverage is well below the stated coverage. So far, your efforts have helped the FCC acknowledge that our providers are overstating their coverage, but we must continue to show where and how widespread the lack of broadband coverage is in West Virginia.

Robert Goff, from Terra Alta,  contacted the Senator for assistance with his efforts to obtain road repairs with the West Virginia Division of Highways. As a result of Caseworker Amber McCartney's inquiry, Robert was added to the State plan to schedule repairs.

AFTER MONTHS OF PRESSURE FROM MANCHIN, CHARLESTON MAIL MACHINES REINSTATED
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded the reinstatement of three critical mail machines at the U.S. Postal Service Charleston Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). This comes after months of pressure from Senator Manchin to reinstate the machines.

“When I first visited the Charleston P&DC, I witnessed firsthand the critical mail machines that were out of service on orders from Postmaster General DeJoy. Since then I’ve pressed DeJoy to allow the Charleston P&DC to reinstate these machines, and after a judge ruled changes under DeJoy should be reversed, the machines are finally up and running again. This is a step in the right direction to ensuring West Virginians and Americans get their Social Security benefits, medications, and ballots on time and I applaud the Charleston P&DC staff for bringing these machines back online,” said Senator Manchin.

MANCHIN, CAPITO WELCOME VIRGIN HYPERLOOP TO WEST VIRGINIA
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), today applauded Virgin Hyperloop’s decision to base their new Hyperloop Certification Center in West Virginia.

“Nearly a year ago, I wrote to Sir Richard Branson, highlighting the benefits of doing business in West Virginia and urging him to pick the Mountain State for the newest Virgin Hyperloop venture. Today we celebrate the beginning of a new partnership between West Virginia and Virgin Hyperloop that will last for decades to come,” said Senator Manchin. “Virgin Hyperloop’s decision to make West Virginia the home of their Certification Center is a testament to our people and proves that when West Virginia competes, we win. West Virginia continues to grow in the technology, manufacturing, and innovation sectors, and I look forward to witnessing the benefits of this progress as we advance the future of travel right here in our great state of West Virginia.”

MANCHIN, CAPITO APPLAUD $4.4 MILLION EDA INVESTMENT FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN WEST VIRGINIA
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today applauded a $4.4 million investment from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for two infrastructure projects in West Virginia. The projects will support a sewer line expansion at Yeager Airport and flood control infrastructure in Beverly. The two projects will create and retain over 600 jobs.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE FLOOD RELIEF FUNDING
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $9,123,688 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security. This funding is designated for state management costs associated with the devastating flood in 2016.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE NEARLY $600K FOR WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY RESEARCH
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $599,127 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for two research projects through the West Virginia University (WVU) Research Corporation. The projects focus on prosthetic joint infection treatment and natural gas byproducts.

MANCHIN URGES WEST VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO APPLY FOR 2021 SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) urged interested high school juniors and seniors to apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program Washington Week, which will take place virtually March 14th – 18th, 2021. Applications close November 13th, 2020.
