CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM SENATOR MANCHIN

As this Christmas season arrives, Gayle and I are reminded once again to reflect on how proud we are to be West Virginians, blessed with the riches of loving friends and family.

This year has brought many unprecedented challenges, but in true West Virginia fashion, we have seen each other rise up to help our neighbors and go above and beyond the call of duty. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field and patriot grave to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”

This Christmas and holiday season, let us look forward to a time of peace in our nation and in our communities, and a renewed sense of prosperity. I’ve always said ‘if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings.’ We are all so blessed to enjoy their opportunities of this great nation. That is why, during this holiday season, I encourage every West Virginian to share their blessings and generosity with those who may need a helping hand. May you spend this year’s waning days visiting loved ones, renewing old ties, forging new relationships, and sharing a hope among us all for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

- Joe and Gayle

WORKING FOR YOU

FINAL COVID-19 EMERGENCY RELIEF PACKAGE BASED ON ORIGINAL BIPARTISAN, BICAMERAL LEGISLATION

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME), Mark Warner (D-VA), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Angus King (I-ME), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Rob Portman (R-OH), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chairs Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5) and Tom Reed (R-NY-23) applauded the final COVID-19 emergency relief package.

"Following months of deadlock in Congress while millions of Americans were at risk of losing their lifelines, we put our heads down and worked around the clock for nearly a month to produce a bipartisan, bicameral bill to address the emergency needs of our country. We are relieved Congress has finally agreed on a COVID-19 emergency relief package. Our consensus bill was the foundation of this final package and we applaud Congressional leadership for finishing what we started. Workers, businesses, and families need help right now and we urge our colleagues to quickly pass this bill and President Trump to immediately sign the legislation to provide Americans with relief."

MANCHIN ANNOUNCES WEST VIRGINIA VETERANS WILL RECEIVE FIRST DOSES OF MODERNA VACCINE
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) received notification from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that all four VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) in West Virginia have been selected to receive the initial allocation of the Moderna vaccine. The VA is planning to begin distributing the Moderna vaccine as early as next week.

"Today I heard directly from Veterans Affairs officials that VA facilities in West Virginia will be receiving the initial allocation of the of the Moderna vaccine as early as next week. I’m pleased the Department of Veterans Affairs has acted quickly after my inquiry last week to remedy the situation. West Virginia Veterans have made tremendous sacrifices on behalf of our nation and are one of the most at-risk populations in the country. That’s why ensuring they quickly receive the vaccine is of the upmost importance. I will continue working with VA and other Administration officials to ensure every West Virginian has access to a COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible," Senator Manchin said.

This announcement comes after Senator Manchin sent a letter this week calling on the VA to provide an explanation for the exclusion of many rural Veterans, including West Virginia Veterans, from the VA’s initial COVID-19 vaccine distribution and implementation plan. Senator Manchin also implored the VA to prioritize rural VAMCs for initial distribution of the vaccine at last week’s Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing.
