Back in 2015, the FCC released a coverage map that stated 99.9% of Americans had wireless coverage. I knew then what I know now: That is just plain wrong.

MANCHIN URGES BIDEN ADMINISTRATION TO FULLY FUND BAY RESTORATION PROGRAMS
Washington, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Tom Carper (D- DE), Bob Casey (D-PA), Mark Warner (D-VA), Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) wrote to President Joe Biden urging him to provide robust funding for Chesapeake Bay programs in his FY2022 budget proposal. Senator Manchin has been working in partnership with the other states in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the federal government to improve water quality in local rivers, streams and the Chesapeake Bay by 2025.

The Senators said in part, “State and local governments in the Chesapeake Bay watershed jurisdictions, federal agencies, and academic, nongovernmental, and other partners have collaborated to restore the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem for decades. Now, as the 2025 target to have all practices and controls installed to achieve water quality standards approaches, funding programs that invest in climate solutions, sustainably manage water resources, restore habitat, and strengthen public access for outdoor recreation will advance not only the shared goals and outcomes for the restoration of the Bay, but also bolster the recovery of the regional economy.”

MANCHIN PRAISES BIDEN ADMINISTRATION’S PLANS TO STRENGTHEN LWCF

Biden Administration rescinded Trump-Era restrictions that inhibit the availability of LWCF funding

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement after the Biden Administration took steps to strengthen the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) by rescinding Trump administration policies that restricted the landmark conservation program.

"I’m glad to see the Biden Administration working to undo the previous administration’s efforts to undermine the Land and Water Conservation Fund. When Congress overwhelmingly passed my Great American Outdoors Act last year, it was an acknowledgment of our strong bipartisan commitment to better invest in the protection and preservation of our public lands so that future generations can enjoy them as we have. Following its enactment, I was disappointed that the development of an adequate project list was delayed and that former Secretary Bernhardt placed restrictions on the LWCF in violation of Congressional intent. I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to ensure that the Great American Outdoors Act is fully implemented as intended by Congress, and welcome this step towards that today,” Chairman Manchin said.

MANCHIN PRAISES $100 MILLION DOE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Senator Manchin encourages West Virginians to apply for research funding.

Washington, DC – Today, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, welcomed the Department of Energy’s announcement of up to $100 million in funding for transformative clean energy technology research and development via the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’s (ARPA-E) OPEN 2021 funding opportunity. This funding will help identify cutting-edge, disruptive energy-related technologies, including clean energy technologies that will play a key role in addressing the climate crisis.

"I’m thrilled to see the Department of Energy announce $100 million for research and development of game-changing energy technologies. Innovation is critical to addressing the climate challenges facing us today and to charting a path to a cleaner energy future. West Virginia has hosted four ARPA-E projects and the Mountain State’s innovative spirit continues to thrive. Manchin: Bringing back supply chains and manufacturing to the United States will rebuild and strengthen the economy

Washington, DC – Yesterday, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, urged President Biden to consider the benefits of responsible production of natural gas as his administration evaluates the federal oil and gas leasing program and considers policies and regulations related to the energy industry. Chairman Manchin highlighted that responsible production of natural gas resources, along with the use of carbon capture, utilization and sequestration and other technologies and infrastructure to capture and transport methane, is critical to achieving energy security, economic growth and global emissions reductions.

"I am an ardent advocate of an all-of-the-above energy policy coupled with technological innovation to solve both our country’s energy challenges and the global climate challenge.
