MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION FOR WEST VIRGINIA

Following bipartisan support from West Virginia's congressional delegation, President Joe Biden has approved West Virginia's request for a federal disaster declaration as a result of severe weather on April 2-6, 2024. The President's action makes federal funding available through FEMA to affected individuals in Boone, Cabell, Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Putnam, Wayne and Wetzel counties. It was an honor to speak at the GameChanger Prevention Education Dinner and to receive an award for my efforts to pass commonsense legislation that fights the drug epidemic on all fronts. To the entire GameChanger team – thank you for your tireless efforts in protecting our youth.

The award-winning GameChanger film “One Pill Can Kill” will soon air throughout West Virginia as part of “Laken’s Law" which mandates that fentanyl prevention and awareness education be taught in West Virginia’s schools beginning the 2024-2025 school year.

MANCHIN STATEMENT ON MEMORIAL DAY

With the help of my staff, I was honored to lend my support for several events in the Northern Panhandle: Memorial Day Service at McMechen Cemetery in Marshall County; Memorial Day Service at the Wheeling Waterfront; revitalization celebration for a new multiuse development project in downtown Wheeling; Ellsworth Scherich with the Veterans Honor Guard participating in the Moundsville Memorial Day Ceremony.

Joshua of Clear Fork contacted my office for assistance with the VA regarding his back payment for benefits. After an inquiry from my office to the VA, Joshua's retroactive payment was released to him.

STUDENT RESOURCES - Behavioral health clinicians, support workers, clinical support staff and those trained in substance use disorders can apply to the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program. Applications will be accepted through June 27.

FLOOD RESOURCES - West Virginia is one of the most flood susceptible states in the nation. The risks are projected to increase in the coming years. Provided by both federal and state resources, the WV Flood Tool is an interactive map with a range of information, including flood hazard zones and detailed topographical information, for the entire state of West Virginia. 

The West Virginia Flood Resiliency Public Survey is being conducted by a team of researchers, state agencies and community organizations to understand the experiences of West Virginians affected by floods in their communities.

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED INDIVIDUALS - Many clinics throughout the state offer free or low-cost health care options for West Virginians.
