"Independence Day is a time for us all to put aside our differences and come together as Americans to celebrate our great nation. On this day, we remember the brave heroes who were willing to take up arms, fight for our freedoms and create this great country 248 years ago. We also honor our brave servicemembers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Their sacrifices prove that American ideals are worth fighting for, and they are an inspiration to us all. I share the pride and patriotism all West Virginians feel for America today and every day, and I am incredibly proud of our state and her people. A constituent from Charleston contacted my office asking for assistance with her pending application for a social security number. She applied for the social security number, but the process was delayed. As a result of my inquiry from my office to the Social Security Administration, this thankful constituent was able to begin receiving regular updates on the status of her application and was subsequently issued a social security number.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE - A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Summersville to help West Virginia residents affected by the April 2-6 severe storms. Residents and businesses from several counties can get help with applications, upload documents and get questions answered about federal disaster assistance. Visit the FEMA DRC Locator for more details on open centers in West Virginia. 

FLOOD RESOURCES - West Virginia is one of the most flood susceptible states in the nation. The risks are projected to increase in the coming years. Provided by both federal and state resources, the WV Flood Tool is an interactive map with a range of information, including flood hazard zones and detailed topographical information, for the entire state of West Virginia. 

The West Virginia Flood Resiliency Public Survey is being conducted by a team of researchers, state agencies and community organizations to understand the experiences of West Virginians affected by floods in their communities.

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED INDIVIDUALS - Many clinics throughout the state offer free or low-cost health care options for West Virginians.
