At a Senate Foreign Relations hearing on the Administration's decision to withdraw our troops from Syria, Senator Romney expressed concerns about how the decision was reached and its implications for U.S. national security interests. Ambassador James Jeffrey, the Administration's Syria envoy, agreed with Senator Romney's assertion that Turkey ignored our warning and that the U.S. blinked by withdrawing our troops. Following the President's announcement that the U.S. would not impose sanctions against Turkey for its incursion into northern Syria, Senator Romney released the following statement: "It's unthinkable that Turkey would not suffer consequences for malevolent behavior which was contrary to the interests of the United States and our friends."

With two-thirds of our state held as public land, Utahns are all too familiar with the rulemaking process employed by federal bureaucracies. At a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, Senator Romney stressed the importance of maintaining integrity within the e-rulemaking commenting systems. This issue is of immense importance because when the Bureau of Land Management, for example, puts out a proposed rule for comments, it's imperative that the individuals for whom the rule will most affect are the ones who get the say—not an army of bots deploying reams of fake comments.
