My constitutional role to provide advice and consent on a Supreme Court nomination is one of my most serious responsibilities as a senator, and I believe our next justice must faithfully apply the law and our Constitution, impartially and regardless of policy preferences. I look forward to meeting with Judge Barrett, reviewing her record thoroughly, and carefully evaluating her qualifications."
Following her nomination, Senator Romney met with Judge Barrett and released this statement: “I enjoyed meeting Judge Barrett, and we had an informative, wide-ranging discussion about her impressive background and her judicial philosophy. I look forward to her upcoming testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee."

As Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee focused on the Middle East, Senator Romney teamed up with Senator Murphy (D-CT) to urge the Administration to provide a briefing to the Senate as soon as possible to explain the nature of the threats to our Baghdad Embassy personnel, steps the State Department is taking to mitigate the threats in coordination with our Iraqi partners, and any consequence we would expect if the U.S. does vacate the Baghdad Embassy.
