At the start of the week, Senator Romney voted against the nomination of Rep. Deb Haaland to serve as Secretary of Interior due to her record and views on land management and energy resources, including her support for radical policies like the Green New Deal. He also expressed concerns regarding the Administration's 30x30 initiative to put restrictions on 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030. Senator Romney joined colleagues from Western states in requesting further clarification regarding this mandate and urged the Administration to include state and local governments, tribes, and stakeholders in future negotiations and decisions regarding Utah’s lands and waters.
In response to the delegation's request, Secretary Haaland announced that she would be visiting Utah to tour the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. The Department of Interior also announced an extension of the boundaries' review deadline until after the Secretary visited Utah, another ask of the Utah congressional delegation and state leaders. The Utah leaders released a statement following Interior's announcement, saying: "We are...confident that this trip will successfully highlight the need for a permanent legislative solution for determining appropriate boundaries for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments." Senator Romney discussed this progress with Governor Cox and the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition.

Senator Romney sat down with Oren Cass, executive director of American Compass, to discuss the Family Security Act—his proposal to provide greater financial security for American families by streamlining existing family policies to create one universal child benefit.

His proposal would repudiate China’s abuses in a way that will hurt the Chinese Communist Party, rather than our American athletes, by reducing China’s revenues, shutting down their propaganda, and exposing their abuses.

What's happening at our southern border is a real crisis, and the Biden Administration is making it worse by unlawfully freezing border wall funding appropriated by Congress. Senator Romney joined nearly 40 of his Republican colleagues in requesting GAO's legal opinion on whether the Administration violated the Impoundment Control Act when the President suspended border wall funding and construction without lawful justification.

During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing examining the U.S. policy toward China, Senator Romney spoke with experts about how we go about developing a comprehensive, proactive strategy to deal with the increasing threat China poses.
