Under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, China has made it very clear that their objective is to replace the U.S. as the world’s dominant player. This week, the Foreign Relations Committee debated a bipartisan package of bills aimed at developing a strategy to encourage China to play by the rules of the international community. Senator Romney secured seven of his amendments in the committee-passed bill, which now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
One of his amendments requires a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics in response to China’s ongoing human rights abuses, including the Uyghur genocide. Another amendment aims to deter China from using force against Taiwan. Learn more about the Senator's amendments here.

Despite the fact that nearly two-thirds of Utah is public land, our state is being drastically short-changed on funding for public lands maintenance projects. Senator Romney led the Utah delegation in a letter to Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland requesting an explanation regarding Interior's recent announcement of deferred maintenance awards. Utah was allocated a disproportionately low amount of funding compared to its proportion of federal lands and its contribution to the federal government.

The Administration wants yet another multi-trillion dollar jobs/stimulus bill, and this time it's under the guise of infrastructure. Senator Romney went to the White House this week, urging President Biden to work with Republicans on a bipartisan infrastructure plan that is focused on real infrastructure and doesn't add trillions of dollars to our national debt. Later in the week, Senate Republicans, led by Senator Capito (R-WV) introduced an alternative proposal, which Senator Romney said was "wisely focused on actual infrastructure and addresses real deficiencies." He continued, "It’s a responsible, solid step forward, and the Administration should welcome efforts to find common ground and meet us at the negotiating table.

The agricultural community has a vital role to play in addressing climate change. This week, Senator Romney joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in introducing the Growing Climate Solutions Act—legislation to increase access to the voluntary carbon credit market. This would help reduce confusion and improve information for farmers and ranchers looking to implement practices that capture carbon, reduce emissions, improve soil health, and empower them in their stewardship of the land.
Utah is rapidly expanding as a center for global commerce and tourism, is home to thousands of Latter-day Saints who annually embark on worldwide religious missions, and, like much of the Western Mountain region, has a rapidly growing population. Yet, the thousands of Utahns who seek passports each year must renew their passports by mail or travel out of state to Arizona or Colorado. Senator Romney wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the State Department to open a passport agency in Salt Lake City.
