The Biden Administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has put our national security at risk and jeopardized our reputation amongst our allies.
At a Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Romney pressed Secretary of State Blinken on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, specifically questioning whether the Administration has a plan to respond to reemerging terrorist threats given that the Taliban has not severed its ties with Al Qaeda or the Haqqani network. He also urged the Administration to continue evacuating Americans, U.S. legal permanent residents, and vulnerable Afghans who are still stranded in the country.

In the last two decades since September 11, 2001, we have asked our servicemembers to do so much to keep us safe, and they have responded with uncommon courage. Among them are the heroes who were injured or killed during the terrorist attacks outside the Kabul airport on August 26, including two Utahns.
Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover of Sandy served three tours and was well-respected by his fellow soldiers abroad and admired by those who knew him and loved him here at home. He upheld his sacred oath as a Marine at the cost of his own life. Another brave Utahn, Cpl. We’re praying for his complete and speedy recovery.

The Senator also joined his colleagues in introducing a bipartisan bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor that Congress can bestow, to the 13 American servicemembers who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in Kabul.

In Utah, and throughout the United States, a majority of working parents do not get paid when they take time off from work after the birth or adoption of a child, which can mean depleted savings, credit card debt, and student loan defaults. Senator Romney joined Senator Rubio (R-FL) in reintroducing the New Parents Act, which gives parents the flexibility to take time off from work with pay during the first weeks of their children’s lives, without growing our national debt, raising taxes, or creating a new entitlement program.
