Democrats' "Build Back Better” plan is greatly flawed—it's bad policy and the process of crafting the bill has been equally terrible. Legislation that affects something as important as our children, and how we raise our children, must be bipartisan.
At a press conference detailing how the child care provisions in Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spending bill would negatively impact child care providers and families, Senator Romney called out Democrats for not working with Republicans on a bipartisan solution—arguing that the Democrats’ bill would permanently raise prices for everyone, while only temporarily helping a small number of families.

The United States must take decisive action now to confront China’s growing aggression and dissuade them from pursuing a predatory path around the world. The Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022, with a key amendment offered by Senator Romney to require the president to develop a grand strategy to address the threat China poses to the global order.
The bill also supports Hill Air Force Base’s role in bolstering the U.S. nuclear deterrent and helps Utah's bases and installations hire talented military retirees. Additionally, it authorizes a memorial to honor the incredibly brave servicemembers—including Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, of Sandy, UT—who were killed in the terrorist attacks outside the Kabul airport in Afghanistan this summer.

This year, Utah saw 1,100 wildfires burn nearly 64,000 acres of land. To help Western states better prevent, manage, and mitigate wildfires, Senators Romney and Kelly (D-AZ), along with Representative Curtis, introduced the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Act—bipartisan legislation that establishes a commission to help improve strategies to prevent future wildfires from becoming catastrophic disasters. The senators secured its inclusion in the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which became law on November 15, 2021.
This week, upon the Administration’s announcement of the establishment of the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission, Senators Romney and Kelly released the following statement:
“Our states are facing historic numbers of wildfires and desperately need assistance with fire prevention, mitigation, and response. Earlier this year, we introduced legislation to establish a Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission because existing fire policies must be adapted to meet today’s challenges. A commission that brings experts from local communities and the private and public sectors will help improve strategies to prevent future wildfires from becoming catastrophic disasters across the West. We are proud that this Commission is now a reality, and look forward to seeing the recommendations it puts forth.”
Senator Romney met with Angelina Jolie to discuss ways in which lawmakers and community leaders can support children and families at home and abroad. They also discussed her work as a special envoy for the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees.

Senator Romney’s bill to honor these brave servicemembers with a Congressional Gold Medal—the highest civilian honor Congress can bestow—was signed by President Biden into law.
With 48 companies, 81 University departments, and a workforce of more than 14,000 people, the University of Utah’s Research Park plays a pivotal role in supporting Utah’s strong economy. Senator Romney joined the Utah congressional delegation in introducing the University of Utah Research Park Act, legislation to protect Research Park—a center for research and development serving both the University and the local workforce.
Public-private partnerships are essential to implement innovative and efficient infrastructure projects that meet the demands associated with Utah’s continued growth. This week, the Surface Transportation board gave final approval for a new rail line in the Uinta Basin, which will facilitate more efficient commerce and open up new opportunities for economic growth in our state.
