It’s absurd to claim that to 'save a democracy,' the Democratic party, which has the barest majority in recent history, must overhaul one of our vital democratic institutions—the Senate. Russia is trying to blackmail Europe while playing a victim. Putin has amassed over a hundred thousand troops at the border of the Ukraine, all the while manipulating Europe’s energy supply. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline gives Putin more leverage over Ukraine, makes Western Europe more dependent on Russia, and prevents the United States from maintaining a united front with our partners.
We must stand united with our allies and lead urgent action to deter Putin’s bully tactics in Europe. Although filibustered by Senate Democrats, Senator Romney joined a bipartisan group of senators in voting in favor of the Protecting Europe's Energy Security Implementation Act, legislation to impose sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The Senator also expressed his support for efforts which would provide aid to Ukraine and strengthen NATO’s position in Eastern Europe.
