The President and many Democrats have engaged in the lie that Republicans across the country are making it much harder for minorities to vote, and thus that the federal government must urgently displace centuries of constitutional practice that gives states primary control over elections. So dire are the consequences, they claim, that this must be done by shredding a key element of our senior legislative body: the filibuster.
Democrats’ election reform legislation would weaken voter ID (which is supported by a great majority of voters), make it easier to cheat, weaken safeguards for voter registration, use federal funding for campaigns, and require states to allow felons to vote. In Senator Romney’s words, President Biden and many Democrats have “ventured from political overstatement and hyperbole to deep hysteria.”
Prior to the vote, Senator Romney spoke on the Senate floor about the Democrats’ attempts at a partisan takeover of our federal elections.

Following President Biden’s remarks casting doubt on the legitimacy of our nation’s elections, Senator Romney shared the following statement:
“It is irresponsible for an American president in any way to delegitimize an election. Without question, our elections are fair and legitimate. This is the same unfortunate path the former president went down and as we know, it is a dangerous and highly divisive course. It was unacceptable then and it is unacceptable now.”

There is no doubt that President Biden has had a bad year—he's had 52 weeks of bad weeks. Hardworking Americans are facing historic inflation. The southern border is a mess. COVID resurged without adequate testing to keep people safe. The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster. Russia is now threatening Ukraine.
The President needs to stop trying to transform America with radical policies and work to unify the country, like he promised.
