Starting his week in Washington, Senator Romney focused his efforts on Utah's unique needs as a rapidly-growing state. Meeting with the Administration and local Utah officials, the Senator discussed critical paths forward on implementing the bipartisan infrastructure bill—ensuring it will be implemented as Congress intended. Back in Utah, Senator Romney joined 2002 Olympic Committee leadership and alumni, Olympians, families, and Utahns in commemorating 20 years since the Winter Games in Salt Lake. The Olympics display some of the greatest qualities of the human spirit. Time and time again—during the 2002 Games—people across the world were inspired by the commitment, unity, and passion of the athletes and volunteers who made our games in Salt Lake so special.

Senator Romney joined the 2002 Olympic Committee team in commemorating 20 years since the Salt Lake Games at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake.

In Park City, Senator Romney participated in several events celebrating Utah’s heartening Olympic Legacy.

He also cheered on Team USA athletes who are competing in Beijing with their families and returned Olympians.

Existing family programs aren’t having the kind of impact they ought to have on our children, given the amount we are spending. Senator Romney’s Family Security Act would create a new national commitment to American families by modernizing antiquated federal policies into a monthly cash benefit to help with childcare expenses—without penalizing marriage or stay-at-home parents.

Senator Romney joined Michael R. Strain, Director of Economic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), for a discussion on family policy, ranging from the Senator’s Family Security Act to the child tax credit.

Utah’s pro-growth policies and talented workforce make our state a great place to operate and grow a business. Senator Romney toured Nucor Steel Utah in Plymouth to see their operations, learn more about NUCOR’s sustainability practices, and discuss Utah’s pro-business policies, U.S. competition with China, and implementation of the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

More than two years into the pandemic, we continue to see a lack of capacity in medical countermeasure manufacturing—most recently experiencing a testing shortage. Senator Romney joined Senator Hassan (D-NH) in introducing the Medical Countermeasures Surge Capacity Act of 2022, legislation to improve our medical countermeasure efforts by providing our public health agencies the tools to support critical manufacturing on an ongoing basis.

Getting the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed was a success; but now, it must be implemented as Congress intended. Senator Romney met with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to discuss their shared implementation objectives. Senator Romney also expressed a desire to continue working with Secretary Buttigieg to ensure that Utah's infrastructure needs are met.

The bipartisan infrastructure bill was designed to meet the needs of rapidly growing states like Utah. Senator Romney met with leadership from the Wasatch Front Regional Council to discuss how they can best implement funding and provisions from the bill for key infrastructure projects along the Wasatch Front.

The Special Olympics has an incredible legacy of inclusive sports in our state. Senator Romney met with members of the Utah Special Olympics delegation for a discussion on their efforts to enhance the lives of Utahns with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

With thousands of full-time employees in Draper and South Jordan, and over 90,000 sellers throughout Utah, eBay is a significant contributor to our state’s booming economy. Senator Romney sat down with CEO Jamie Iannone to discuss ways to better support our small e-commerce merchants.
