The baby formula shortage is a crisis for families in Utah and across the country. Senator Romney took the FDA and USDA to task for the agencies’ complete inaction on addressing this urgent issue—sending a letter to the Administration urging them to take immediate action to address the formula shortage and implement steps to prevent future threats to infant health. He also met with Ambassador Bridget Brink, the President’s nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, and several groups of Utahns. Keep scrolling for a brief recap of the week:

It’s unacceptable that parents are unable to safely feed their infants because of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) inaction.

Senator Romney sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Califf and USDA Secretary Vilsack urging the agencies to expedite their investigation into the tragic infant deaths, immediately address the baby formula shortage, and implement steps to prevent future threats to infant health.

Senator Romney joined Rep. Curtis (R-UT) and Senator Lee (R-UT) in requesting that President Biden correct the record on Utah’s national monuments following remarks he made where he inaccurately asserted that his Administration received conservative Republican support for his unilateral action surrounding Bears Ears. The group also, once again, asked the President to “come to the negotiating table…to find a permanent, legislative solution to the boundaries and management of Utah’s national monuments.”

Each day, the men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect our communities. During National Police Week, Senator Romney thanked all of the law enforcement officers in Utah, as well as those who serve in our United States Capitol Police force, for their efforts and offered prayers for their continued safety.

The world is watching Ukraine heroically defend its freedom from Russia’s unprovoked invasion. Senator Romney met with Ambassador Bridget Brink, nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, ahead of her confirmation to discuss the important role diplomatic efforts will continue to play on the ground and with our allies.

The White House must play by its own rules. Should the Biden Administration want to proceed with implementing its “30x30” initiative (conserving at least 30% of our lands and waters by 2030), it must adhere to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements and undergo the proper analysis and public comment period. Senator Romney joined a group of his colleagues in reminding the Administration of their own NEPA requirements and requesting that Departments provide the exact legal authority the Biden Administration is using to carry out its 30x30 initiative.

Senator Romney met with several groups of Utahns in Washington, including SITLA Director Michelle McConkie, Utah nurses and anesthesiologists, and public policy students from the University of Utah.
