Following reports of a Chinese Communist Party spy balloon entering U.S. airspace, Senator Romney shared the following statement:
“China's recent charm offensive is a Potemkin village, attempting to conceal their malign ambitions toward our country and the global order. We must be clear-eyed on China and appropriately respond to this provocation—including securing our airspace and affirming our sovereignty.”
Later, the Senator emphasized the need to take action on other further security threats posed by the CCP. He said in a tweet: “A big Chinese balloon in the sky and millions of Chinese TikTok balloons on our phones. Let’s shut them all down.”
Two-thirds of our national spending is automatic, which means Congress doesn’t even get to vote on it. This mandatory spending funds our entitlement programs, and it is where most of the national debt originates from. Without action, these funds will become insolvent within the next decade.
Senator Romney’s TRUST Act is designed to create committees tasked to rescue Social Security, Medicare, and the Highway Trust Fund before they collapse. The Senator joined Heidi Hatch on KUTV for a wide-ranging interview on the debt ceiling, his TRUST Act, and his priorities for the 118th Congress.
Relying on adversarial countries like China for our supply of copper and other critical minerals puts our national security at risk. Senator Romney joined a bipartisan letter, led by Senator Sinema (I-AZ), urging U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Haaland to designate copper as an official U.S. Geological Survey Critical Mineral. This move would better ensure a secure and reliable supply of domestic copper resources—including those mined at Utah’s Rio Tinto Kennecott mine—now and for the future.

States and local communities—not the federal government—know best how to manage their lands and waters, and we should keep it that way. The Biden Administration’s new Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule will impose harmful and burdensome regulations on Utah’s farmers, ranchers, and landowners. Senator Romney joined all 48 of his Republican colleagues, led by Senator Capito (R-WV), in introducing a formal challenge to the Administration’s WOTUS rule through a joint resolution of disapproval.
For decades, Utah’s leaders worked to find a solution to bring running water and wastewater facilities to Navajo Nation in Utah. Senator Romney was finally able to get funding for the Navajo Utah Water Settlement across the finish line during negotiations of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, making good on a longstanding promise by the federal government to Utah’s Navajo. This week, the Department of the Interior announced the allocation of more than $39 million to continue fulfilling the Settlement.
Hundreds of millions of Americans’ retirement funds have taken a hit in our current economy. Now, a new rule put forward by the Biden Administration would further jeopardize Americans’ retirement investments by forcing fiduciaries to prioritize advancing social causes rather than investing in what would get the best returns. Senator Romney joined all 48 of his Republican colleagues, led by Senator Braun (R-IN), and Senator Manchin (D-WV) in introducing a resolution of disapproval challenging President Biden’s ESG rule.

Global companies, like Swiss-based Stadler Rail, are setting up their U.S. operations in Utah thanks to our state's pro-business policies and prosperous outlook. Senator Romney met with Stadler U.S. CEO Martin Ritter to discuss the company’s role in supporting Utah’s growing economy.
Young people in Utah know it's never too early to get involved in public service. During their visit to Washington, Senator Romney met with youth coalitions from across Utah to learn about their efforts to help strengthen the health and wellbeing of their communities.
