Many of Senator Romney’s foreign policy priorities, including addressing the growing China threat, have gained momentum as members from both sides of the aisle have started rallying to take action. Doing the right thing for another nation can also be the right thing for America. Supporting Ukraine makes Russia far less likely to launch major new wars, which would further damage our economy and threaten our security. It also weakens an adversary, enhances our national security advantage, and requires no shedding of American blood. Our adversaries—countries like China, Russia, Iran—are increasingly using technology products to spy on Americans and discover vulnerabilities in our communications infrastructure, which can then be exploited. Senator Romney joined a bipartisan group of his colleagues, led by Senators Warner (D-VA) and Thune (R-SD), in introducing the Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology (RESTRICT) Act.
The legislation would comprehensively address the ongoing threat posed by technology from foreign adversaries by better empowering the Department of Commerce—in conjunction with intelligence, law enforcement, and financial officials—to review, prevent, and mitigate information communications and technology transactions that pose undue risk to our national security.

Senator Romney released a statement following the announcement of President Biden’s FY2024 budget:
“President Biden’s proposed budget is designed to satisfy his base, not to actually become law. Raising corporate taxes would cause companies and good jobs to leave America, as they have in the past. Rather than aggressively beefing up the number of border agents and drug enforcement personnel to counter the fentanyl crisis, he balloons the number of IRS agents. And while talking tough about China, he allows our Navy to fall even further behind. Let’s put the President’s political foray aside and work on a bipartisan plan that can become law and that will work for America.”
Severe droughts have resulted in increasingly destructive wildfires, especially in Utah. As our climate conditions change, we cannot continue responding to fires as we have in the past. At a Budget Committee hearing on the economic cost of wildfires, Senator Romney highlighted the reality that wildfires are becoming increasingly catastrophic in Utah and across the West and argued the need to adapt our wildfire policies to meet the current conditions.

After joining the majority of the Senate in disapproving the Washington, D.C. Council’s revised crime bill, which would have weakened penalties on soaring crimes like theft and carjacking, Senator Romney released the following statement:
“Democrats' soft-on-crime policies, like those included in D.C.'s new criminal code, further threaten the safety of our communities—which already suffer from unacceptable levels of violent crime. It’s common sense: We should work to make Americans feel safer in their neighborhoods, not more at risk by siding with criminals.”
While this war is theirs to fight, it's critical to our national security that we support Ukraine's effort against Putin’s military aggression. Senator Romney met with former NATO Secretary General and Prime Minister of Denmark Anders Fogh Rasmussen for a discussion on bolstering Ukraine’s security.
Utah's pro-business climate has made way for companies like Ivanti—headquartered in South Jordan—to grow thriving and impactful enterprises. Senator Romney met with Ivanti executives to discuss their efforts to strengthen cybersecurity practices in both the public and private sectors.
The Senator furthered the cybersecurity conversation with Royal Hansen, Vice President of Privacy, Safety, and Security at Google. The two discussed the extensive and persistent cyberattacks coming out of Russia to boost Putin’s propaganda machine.
The Senate Youth Program gives exemplary high school students interested in public service a first-hand experience in the world of policy making. At a reception, Senator Romney met with the delegates from Utah, Savannah and Jena, to learn about their accomplishments and plans for the future.
