Rescuing programs like Social Security and Medicare—which face impending insolvency—has long-been a top priority for Senator Romney. Unfortunately, instead of working across the aisle on a bipartisan solution, Washington Democrats have chosen to spread false accusations that members of Congress are out to cut these programs. This week, Senator Romney grilled a Biden Administration official on the President’s recently proposed budget that ignores the real threats to Social Security. He also helped reintroduce bipartisan legislation to develop a strategy in the Black Sea, where a Russian fighter jet recently hit a U.S. drone, and supported a resolution opposing a new Biden rule limiting Americans’ Second Amendment rights. It's dishonest—even offensive—that the Biden Administration is ignoring the real threat to Social Security, its imminent insolvency, and instead repeating a false talking point that Republicans are out to cut benefits. No members of Congress, from either party, want to cut benefits. But if real action isn't taken—and taken soon—the Social Security trust fund will run out and benefits will be automatically cut. Unfortunately, President Biden seems to value political posturing over actually saving the program.

At a Budget Committee hearing to discuss the President’s budget, Senator Romney engaged in a heated exchange with Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young who claimed that members of Congress are proposing cutting benefits for current Social Security recipients.
