National security threats continue to evolve, particularly in light of the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. Coordination between federal, state, and local agencies remains paramount to protecting our homeland and citizens. Senator Romney, Ranking Member of Homeland Security’s Emerging Threats Subcommittee, along with Senator Hassan (D-NH), the Subcommittee’s Chair, led a hearing focused on the Boston Marathon bombing and its impacts on emergency preparedness and homeland security in the decade since the attack.

The Chinese Communist Party will use every tool at its disposal, including drones, to become a global power. It makes absolutely no sense for our government to use drones manufactured in countries like China that threaten our national security. Senator Romney signed onto the bipartisan American Security Drone Act of 2023, legislation to prohibit the purchase of drones from countries identified as national security threats.
The University of Utah Research Park plays an important role in supporting Utah’s strong economy. Senators Romney and Lee reintroduced the University of Utah Research Park Act, a bill to protect and preserve Research Park, a vital center for research and development that serves both the University and the local workforce.
