There is no doubt that authoritarianism is on the rise around the world—which poses a great threat to global freedom and our national security. This week, Senator Romney leveraged his Senate Foreign Relations Committee assignments to advance priorities on countering threats posed by the authoritarian regimes in countries like China, Russia, and North Korea. He also met with a prominent conservancy group in Utah to discuss collaborative efforts to save the shrinking Great Salt Lake. Scroll down for more news.

The rise of authoritarian states like China and Russia is the greatest national security challenge of our time. We must prioritize national security in our financing of development projects in other countries to ensure authoritarians like Xi and Putin don’t gain geopolitical advantage and impede our ability to lead the world. During a Foreign Relations Committee hearing on reauthorizing the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Senator Romney pressed DFC CEO Scott Nathan on taking a strategic approach concerning investments in emerging markets to advance America’s national security interests.

The Biden Administration’s latest internet regulation proposal would steer our country out of the fast lane and into a world of less competition, less choice, less investment, slower speeds, and higher prices.

Senator Romney joined more than 40 of his colleagues in urging the Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman to abandon her proposal to reinstate the failed, heavy-handed Obama-era regulations on the internet. In their letter, the senators note that following the repeal of the Obama-era rules in 2017, all of the Democrats’ fear mongering claims—most notably that Americans would get the internet one word at a time—were debunked and proven to be completely false.

North Korea is increasingly belligerent and malevolent—which is evident in their missile testing, ongoing threats, and support for Russia's unjust war in Ukraine. It's critical that the United States remains in lockstep with South Korea and our allies in the region to deter aggression and maintain stability in Northeast Asia. Senator Romney helped lead a Foreign Relations East Asia Subcommittee hearing with Senator Van Hollen (D-MD) on examining security on the Korean Peninsula.
