Vermont students — Join me a for a virtual town hall meeting this Monday, March 15th at 7:30 P.M. I want to hear directly from you about the challenges you have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The current health and economic crisis has created one of the most stressful times in modern history, and I know this past year has been particularly difficult for young people. You have had to adapt to remote learning, hybrid environments. You have not been able to see your friends or go on dates, and you have missed out on important milestones like prom, school plays, and sports tournaments. You have also struggled with challenges that many adults are facing as well, like poor internet access, lost jobs, and family members who have gotten sick or even died from this horrible disease. And it is no surprise that so many throughout our country — both young people and adults — have struggled with mental health over the past year. These are not normal times, and no one should expect to feel normal in response to all of these struggles. This is why I want to hear directly from you about your experiences throughout this last year and to discuss what we can do together to move forward.
I will be joined for this discussion by a panel of Vermont high school students from across the state, who will share their thoughts and experiences. We will then have a question and answer session with all the student participants. I hope you will take this opportunity to make your voices heard by speaking out about the issues that matter most to you and ask questions about how the government is responding to help.
I hope you can join this virtual town hall meeting and I look forward to speaking with you Monday.
