Vermont High School Students: I want to hear from you! After such a difficult year, you deserve a great summer. Thanks to the passage of the American Rescue Plan, there will be a historic investment in summer opportunities for you. To make sure these opportunities match what you need, I want to hear directly from you about how you want to spend summer 2021.

Do you want to explore a certain career through internship or mentorship opportunities? Do you want some help with academics or preparing for college? Do you want to participate in activities you may have missed over the past year, like sports or performing arts? Do you want a summer job?

Your lives have been disrupted in a way that we have never seen before, and I know many of you are struggling. However, I know if we work together, we can make this a great summer for you and your fellow students. With triple the amount of funding available, my hope is that summer programming will be exactly what you want and need. The survey should only take 2-3 minutes to complete. I greatly appreciate your participation, and please spread the word — I want to hear from as many students as possible!

You may know that last week I held a town meeting to hear about the experiences of Vermont students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to discuss how we can move forward. You can watch the town hall here, and read about the event here. 

Clearly, this meeting was only the beginning of the conversation. I intend to continue seeking your input because your voices are important. You are the future of this country, and the unprecedented nature of this time makes it more important than ever to hear your perspective and ideas.

Know that I will continue to support Vermont students and do everything I can in Congress to ensure we are addressing your needs and investing in your future. I look forward to seeing your survey responses.
