Dear Fellow Vermonter,
As Vermonters, we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our family farmers.
Agriculture remains a very significant part of our economy, creating many thousands of jobs.
Farmers keep our land open and beautiful, attracting visitors from all over the world.
And today, as has always been the case, family farmers show us what hard work and an incredible work ethic is all about. Cows have got to be milked seven days a week, 365 days a year – and that’s what our dairy farmers do.
Tucked into the foothills of Whitingham on the southernmost edge of Vermont, the Corse family have been stewards of their farmland since 1868. More than 150 years later, Leon Corse continues that long tradition today with his family’s dairy – where he himself grew up and later raised his own kids, Henry, Caleb, and Abbie. Today he runs the farm with his wife Linda and now their daughter Abbie as well.
This fall, the Bernie Buzz got the chance to visit the Corse Farm Dairy and hear more of their story, from the challenges of keeping a small dairy afloat during these difficult times, to their love for the farming way of life, and what it is like to run a dairy with your family.
