Want to Save Money on Your Electricity Bills?

Dear Fellow Vermonter,

In the year 2023, it is no secret that we must move boldly toward transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels, if we are going to address the existential threat of climate change. What isn’t talked about as much, is that the transition to renewable energy can actually help families SAVE an enormous amount of money on their electricity bills.

To that end, I am proud to tell you that we were successful in passing a $7 billion provision in the Inflation Reduction Act, which will make it a whole lot easier for low-income and working families to install solar on their rooftops AND save money on their electricity bills.

Now what does this mean for Vermonters, and how does it work?

It means Vermont families who are interested in installing solar on their rooftops can apply for this funding to help them do just that. The result: At very little or any upfront cost, working families in Vermont will be able to provide electricity to their homes. This means that we can not only cut carbon emissions and help save the planet, but we can save money on our electric bills.

This program, which will be administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will be up and running and accepting applications this summer. Stay tuned here at the Bernie Buzz for more updates about how to apply. In the meantime, if you have questions about this program, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at 1-800-339-9834.

I will be working closely with the EPA to make sure that Vermonters receive their fair share and can start saving money on their electric bills as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
