Dear Fellow Vermonter,
As we all know, Vermont is one of the most beautiful states in the country. We have extraordinary natural resources that attract people from throughout the world.
On Saturday, June 10th, I went for a hike on the Long Trail in Stowe – along with 150 other Vermonters of all ages who braved the rain. We had a great time. We enjoyed bagels and coffee for breakfast, followed by a scenic hike through the woods.
The event was co-hosted by the Green Mountain Club, which, for over 100 years, has been doing a wonderful job maintaining hundreds of miles of Vermont trails from the Massachusetts border to Canada.
At a time when our country faces some major anxiety-provoking challenges, it’s a great idea to get out into the Great Outdoors with our friends and family and enjoy nature. This is especially true for kids who are spending too much time on their phones. As Sophia Towne, a 4th grader from Morrisville, told a local reporter: “Nature is a lot better than electronics…”
In my view, in these troubled times, there is nothing more important for us to be doing in our state and nation than building community. Enjoying nature together is one way to do just that.
The Green Mountain Club maintains a number of trail networks across Vermont. If you are interested in volunteering with the club, see here for more information https://www.greenmountainclub.org/volunteers/volunteer-opportunities/ or call (802) 244-7037.
Sincerely,
