Dear Fellow Vermonter,
As Vermonters know all too well, we are already experiencing the devastating impact of climate change. We are seeing it in the heatwaves, extreme weather disturbances, floods and droughts increasingly taking place throughout the world. Vermonters saw it recently with the terrible and unhealthy forest fire smoke from Quebec which led to some of the worst air quality days on record.
Climate change is an existential threat to our country and the world. If the United States and other countries do not come together in the immediate future to transform our energy system away from fossil fuels, the quality of life that we will be leaving our kids and future generations is highly questionable.
Now to share some good news.
I am very proud, therefore, to have recently welcomed to Vermont Michael S. Regan, the Administrator of the EPA, for a major announcement. We unveiled the $7 billion Solar for All program which I introduced as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.
This program will make it easier for working families in Vermont and across the country to install solar panels on their rooftops. It will not only help us combat climate change, but will help participants reduce their electric bill by as much as 80-90%. More information about this program can be found HERE and HERE.
It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the impact of climate change. But we cannot give in to despair. We must continue to act and act boldly to transform our energy systems away from fossil fuels. Nothing less than the future of the planet is at stake.
