Looking for an Affordable
Christmas Tree?

Dear Fellow Vermonter,

As we all know, Vermont is one of the most beautiful states in the country. We have extraordinary natural resources that people come from all over the world to see. One of our natural treasures is the 400,000-acre Green Mountain National Forest, stretching from Lincoln to Readsboro. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service since its federal designation in 1932, the forest is made up of eight wilderness areas and 900 miles of trails, including the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail.

What you may not know is that Vermonters can visit the Green Mountain National Forest and cut down their very own Christmas tree for just $5. And, it gets even better: If you have a fourth grader at home, your family can cut down a tree for free as part of the Every Kid Outdoors initiative.

To my mind, cutting down your own tree is a great way to get out in nature and get into the holiday spirit — and for $5, this is an affordable experience for all Vermont families.

If you're interested, you can plan your visit, purchase your $5 permit and learn more HERE.

I hope many of you will get out into the Green Mountain National Forest and find the perfect Vermont tree for the holidays. If you do, please send us a photo — we’d love to see it!

Sincerely,
