Dear Fellow Vermonter,
In my view, the health care system here in Vermont and across the country is broken, dysfunctional, and outrageously expensive. I believe that health care is a human right, should be guaranteed to all, and that we need to move to a Medicare for All single-payer system. We should not continue being the only major country on earth not to provide universal health care.
Whether you agree with me or not, I would love to hear your opinion. How is our current health care system working for you? What positive experiences have you, friends, or family had with the system? What negative experiences have you had or heard about? How would you like Vermont and the country to move forward on health care?
As a result of the recent election and Republicans gaining control of the Senate, I will no longer be the Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) committee. I will, however, be the Ranking Member — the leader of the opposition on that committee. I have also just been appointed to the Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over Medicare, Medicaid, and other public health programs. In other words, I will be heavily involved in health care issues.
No matter what your view is on health care, it’s important to me that I hear from you. Here are some suggested questions, but you can respond in any way you want. With the writer’s permission we look forward to publishing some of the responses we receive in a forthcoming Bernie Buzz. Share your thoughts on our health care system by clicking HERE.
Thanks very much. We look forward to hearing from you.
