Dear Fellow Vermonter,
Senator Welch, Congresswoman Balint, and I look forward to discussing the important issues now facing our country at a Telephone Town Hall on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:30pm.
In the last month, the congressional delegation has been receiving thousands of phone calls from Vermonters expressing deep concerns about actions being taken by Elon Musk and the Trump administration.
Vermonters are worried about illegal, unconstitutional and arbitrary cuts to federal programs which will impact the lives of millions of working families in Vermont and throughout the country. They do not want to see massive cuts to Medicaid, education, nutrition, veterans’ needs, and housing in order to give tax breaks to the rich. They are concerned about friends and family losing their jobs and the threat to programs like child care, community health centers, and suicide prevention programs.
They are also, understandably, worried about the movement toward oligarchy, where a small number of extraordinarily wealthy people control our government at the expense of the rest of us. They do not want to see more and more power resting in the hands of fewer and fewer people.
All of these challenges are compounded with a state that is still recovering from disastrous flooding, and a country that continues to struggle with a broken health care system, the high cost of prescription drugs, a housing crisis, inadequate wages and retirement benefits, and many other issues.
In other words, there is a lot to discuss.
