Dear Fellow Vermonter,
As April nears, I’m very pleased to announce that my office will once again host a “Youth Chess Day.” Over the first two years of this event, more than 250 young Vermonters from across the state have come out to play one of the oldest games in human history.
The response has been overwhelming each year, which is why we are happy to continue putting on this now annual event. The third-annual “Youth Chess Day” will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 11:00 AM to 4 PM at Vermont State University in Randolph.
The Learn to Play session is a great opportunity for first through eighth grade students to learn how to play and hone their skills, while more experienced players grades first through twelfth can test their knowledge in a recreational tournament in the afternoon. I encourage ALL young Vermonters, grades 1-12, to sign up and take part – whether you have years of playing or you’re just starting out. Students with all levels of experience are welcome and everyone is encouraged to join together for a free lunch. |
