Summer Celebrations with
Older Vermonters

Dear Fellow Vermonter,

Let me thank the over 1,000 Vermonters who attended our annual senior town meetings — celebrations this year were held in Barre, Bennington, Castleton, Burlington, Brattleboro, St. Johnsbury, Newport and Morrisville. I very much enjoyed the opportunity to talk directly with Vermont seniors and hear what was on their minds.

And what I heard, loud and clear, is that Vermonters are deeply concerned about the direction in which this country is going. They are worried about our broken and extremely expensive healthcare system, about a corrupt campaign finance system, about the illegal and costly war in Iran, about the high cost of housing, gas, groceries and prescription drugs and the risks posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and robotics. People also voiced concern about ICE raids, the political divisions in our country and the impact of climate change on the world we are leaving to our children and grandchildren.

Without a doubt, we have a lot of work to do to build a government and an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and powerful. Thank you to everyone who shared what was on their minds and those who joined us for a good meal and discussion.
