Dear Fellow Vermonter,
This has been an incredible year for soccer in our state. The University of Vermont men’s team made history, winning their first NCAA Division One national championship. The Vermont Green became the reigning champions of the USL League Two. And on top of that, we had the chance to witness two great exhibition games by the Vermont Green women on Virtue Field — games that left many of us hoping for more.
Recently, Vermont Green shared some exciting news: they are officially launching a women’s team for the 2026 season as part of the USL W League. This is a big deal. It is good news for soccer fans, sports enthusiasts, and anyone looking for an opportunity to come together in community.
Earlier this year, the Bernie Buzz team sat down with Vermont Green women’s team coach — U.S. Women’s National Team player, Sam Mewis — and two of the players to hear more about the future of women’s soccer in Vermont. Fans who attended the exhibition games told us how thrilled they were to be there. And many said what we were all thinking: it’s time for a full season. |
