Meet Caitlin MacLeod-Bluver, Vermont Teacher of the Year

Dear Fellow Vermonter,

I think we can all remember a caring adult at school who made learning more exciting or inspired us to pursue our dreams. Simply having an educator, coach, librarian or custodian believe in you as a young person matters and stays with you for the rest of your life.

For 15 years Caitlin MacLeod-Bluver, the 2025 Vermont Teacher of the Year, has done just that. Caitlin teaches English and history at Winooski High School. But she does more than that. She creates a learning environment where students feel respected, valued and encouraged. Caitlin designs curriculums that recognize the different backgrounds of Winooski students and showcase students’ artwork and writing so families, friends and neighbors can better understand their perspectives and celebrate their accomplishments.

As students work to make sense of the complex and rapidly changing world around them, Caitlin reminds us how important it is to listen to young people and help prepare them for the future. The Bernie Buzz sat down with Caitlin to hear about her love for working with young Vermonters and what inspires her as an educator during these difficult times.

No job is more important and more difficult than teaching our nation’s children. To Caitlin, and all the dedicated educators that show up every day for our students, thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,
