Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Russia Withdrawing Support in Venezuela
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement on the decision by Russian state defense contractor Rostec to withdraw from Venezuela. Rostec has trained Venezuelan troops and advised on securing arms contracts. This decision follows Senator Scott’s call for Russia and Cuba to get out of Venezuela and Nicaragua.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Russia and Cuba, along with China and Iran, are actively supporting Nicolas Maduro in Venzuela, who’s engaged in genocide against his own people. He is murdering women and children and creating a flood of refugees into surrounding countries.
“I’ve called for Russia, Cuba, China and Iran to get out of Venezuela if there is to be a peaceful resolution and for the entire international community to recognize Juan Guaidó as the legitimate President of Venezuela. I’m glad to see Russia is taking steps to withdraw from Venezuela. They should withdraw completely and they should do it now. Maduro’s support is crumbling and now is the time for him to step aside. The fight for freedom will prevail in Venezuela.” Read more HERE.
Sen. Rick Scott Applauds DOT Investment of $60 Million for Tamiami Trail Project
Senator Rick Scott released the below statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that $60 million will be awarded to the State of Florida to raise the unbridged sections of the Tamiami Trail. This announcement follows the letter Senator Scott sent in March to DOT Secretary Elaine Chao urging funding for the project, which is critical to the health of Florida’s Everglades.
Senator Rick Scott said, “As Governor, I fought to fund the Tamiami Trail Modification Next Step Phase I and championed significant funding for the Everglades, Florida’s springs, beaches and state parks. That included more than $2 billion to restore the Everglades and South Florida’s ecosystem. I would like to thank President Trump and DOT Secretary Elaine Chao for building on our efforts by awarding the $60 million I requested for this vital project. I look forward to continuing this strong federal-state partnership to finish the Tamiami Trail and continue our mission to preserve Florida’s historic Everglades National Park.” Read more, including Senator Scott's full March letter to Secretary Chao, HERE.
Sen. Rick Scott Statement on House Passage of Disaster Relief
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after the House’s passage of the $19.1 billion disaster relief package, which was passed by the Senate last month. The final package includes funding for the Florida Panhandle following the devastation from Hurricane Michael, over $1.2 billion to rebuild Tyndall Air Force Base, and the $600 million in disaster recovery funding for Puerto Rico that Senator Scott proposed in January.
Senator Rick Scott said, “I’m glad the House finally passed the disaster relief bill Florida’s Panhandle and Puerto Rico so desperately need to recover following Hurricanes Michael and Maria. It’s long overdue. Unfortunately, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the 5 months I’ve been up here, it’s that Washington is broken. Our communities are hurting, and this process took way too long. Political games were more important than helping Americans, and that’s wrong. But I’m glad it finally got done. Once the President signs this bill, our communities will finally get the resources they need to continue rebuilding their lives and their communities.” Read more HERE.

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after President Trump’s Administration announced new restrictions on U.S. travel to Cuba, banning many education and recreational trips.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Cuba continues to be the most powerful force propping up Nicolas Maduro as he starves and kills his own people. The Cuban Regime is a willing and active participant in Maduro’s genocide. The United States is right to take every action possible to cut off ties with Cuba. I applaud President Trump for taking this important step to restrict U.S. travel to Cuba. Money spent in Cuba goes directly to the Castro Regime and helps keep Maduro and his brutal regime in power. Sen. Rick Scott: House Dems Put their Own Salaries Above American Families
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after House Democrats announced their plan to pad members of Congress’ salaries with an extra $4,500 next year.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Instead of solving real issues important to American families like lowering the cost of prescription drugs and securing our border Democrats are focused on raising their own salaries. Democrats want to get paid MORE while proposing radical ideas, like the Green New Deal and Medicare-for-All, that will force Americans to get paid LESS.
“This is just the latest example of how backwards Washington is. I’m fighting every day to make government work for Americans, not for career politicians looking to get wealthy off taxpayers. That’s why I introduced my Make Washington Work plan which includes a bill to end automatic pay raises for members of Congress.” Read more HERE.
