Sen. Rick Scott: No Bailouts for Big Businesses
Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for Fox Business outlining why U.S. taxpayer dollars should not be used to bail out large corporations that have enjoyed years of growth and prosperity, and what steps the federal government should take instead to support Americans affected by the Coronavirus, especially small businesses, hourly workers and individuals whose livelihoods depend on tips.
Senator Scott is recommending the following steps:
- First, significantly increase federal assistance to state Unemployment Insurance programs, and change the corresponding regulations to allow states the ability to open the fund for workers to immediately access if they are out of work, temporarily out of work, or have reduced hours. Senator Scott believes this is the quickest, most effective, and most fiscally responsible way to get money to the people who need it most.
- Second, impose a 60-day moratorium on mortgages, rent, fees and utilities for both individuals making less than $75,000 a year and small businesses with less than 250 employees.Those payments would be postponed and paid out over the following 12 months.

Sen. Rick Scott to Congress: Split Up Phase 3 Coronavirus Stimulus Package and Focus on Helping Individuals and Small Businesses
As Congress begins consideration of the 'Phase 3' Coronavirus rescue plan, which would provide relief to Americans and big industries, Senator Scott released the following statement calling on Congressional leaders to break up the stimulus package and focus on getting relief to those Americans who need it the most.

Sen. Rick Scott Announces Legislation to Protect Healthcare Workers and First Responders and Limit Chinese Supply Chain to U.S.
Senator Rick Scott announced his plan to introduce the American-Made Protection for Healthcare Workers and First Responders Act to ensure the United States builds its stockpile of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so our first responders and healthcare workers have everything they need to keep themselves safe from Chinese Coronavirus as they care for the sick. Senator Scott is focused on ensuring we promote American-made goods and get Communist China out of the U.S. supply chain. The American-Made Protection for Healthcare Workers and First Responders Act would address the current PPE shortage and build the national stockpile of goods from American-based producers to eliminate our dependence on foreign adversaries’ supply chains during a crisis.

Sen. Rick Scott Calls on Attorneys General to Take Action Against Price-Gouging
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement calling on the attorneys general in all 50 states to take action against bad actors that are taking advantage of this crisis and price-gouging on personal protective equipment, which is desperately needed to save lives and keep our healthcare workers and first responders safe from the Coronavirus.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Personal protective equipment is one of the most important tools our healthcare workers and first responders have to protect themselves, and I continue to hear from hospitals and law enforcement officials that there is a limited supply and they are being price-gouged. This is unacceptable. I am calling on the state attorneys general to use their authority to go after these bad actors. I am also asking Attorney General Barr to immediately implement a federal process to take action against these criminals. Sen. Rick Scott to Trump Administration: Our Law Enforcement and First Responders Need More Resources to Protect Themselves from Coronavirus

Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Coronavirus Assistance Package
Senator Rick Scott released the following statement regarding the Coronavirus assistance package that was considered by Congress earlier this week.
Senator Rick Scott said, “We can’t forget that the best economic stimulus package is to stem the spread of Coronavirus. If we solve this problem, the economic problems will become much easier to solve. I’m glad both parties are coming together to help those affected by Coronavirus. Congress often acts slowly and it’s a real positive to see the urgency with which Congress is acting to get something done. There are many good things in this bill, including ramping up testing to ensure people who need a test can get one.
“But I am very concerned about some of the mandates in this bill that will hurt small businesses. And I’m concerned that adding layers of government bureaucracy, regulation and mandates will make it harder for help to get to the people that need it most – hourly workers, people who rely on tips, and workers in the gig economy. Whatever we pass should limit the unintended consequences for American job creators. Sen. Rick Scott: Every County Across U.S. Needs to Have Mobile Testing NOW
Senator Rick Scott called on the American people to come together and take action NOW to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the United States. Senator Scott is urging every level of government to immediately take the following steps to keep families safe from the Coronavirus:
- SOLVE THE TESTING ISSUE. Every county in the country should have at least one mobile testing site – counties in hot spots like New York and South Florida need more than one. There’s no excuse anymore.
- National Guard units as well as active-duty military personnel should be called upon to support these efforts.
- Governors in states with community spread need to take extreme measures to prevent large social interactions. As a former Governor, Senator Scott knows that they’re best-equipped to make these decisions for their states.
- A national quarantine is difficult to enforce and a waste of much-needed resources. But in hot spots, social distancing measures need to be strictly enforced.
- Protect supply chains for protective equipment for healthcare workers and first responders.
- Crack down on price-gouging of healthcare equipment.
