Friends,
I’m reaching out because I need your feedback on internet coverage in your area. It shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes, but it’s an important step to make sure Virginia receives its fair share of federal funding and broadband deployment goes smoothly.
Here’s the deal: we’ve been relying on outdated maps of broadband coverage for far too long, and so I’ve been pushing for a new set of maps that will help us make the most effective and efficient investments to get broadband across the Commonwealth.
Last week, these maps finally came out. Here’s where your feedback comes in – these are still just the best estimates of coverage. Please take a minute to look up your address HERE and see if the stated coverage options match your experience.
If the FCC has incorrect information about your address or type of dwelling, you can submit a “Location Challenge” circled below in red. If they have incorrect information about the coverage options, you can submit an “Availability Challenge” circled below in blue.
If any information is incorrect, you can write a short description disputing the information (and upload supporting documentation as well.) If the information matches your experience, no need to submit anything!
Getting these maps right is the most important step we can take towards getting Virginia all the investments it needs to deploy universal broadband. Virginia received $5 million last week to help make a strategic plan to deploy coverage, courtesy of the bipartisan infrastructure law, and we’ll get more once our initial plan is done. Now is the time to make sure that we have the best data available so we can receive the maximum federal allotment, make the right targeted investments, and get Virginia universal coverage!
If you ever want to share your thoughts about broadband or any other issue that’s important to you, you can send me an email any time using the form on my Senate website. You can also follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Have a great Thanksgiving,
