I visited Taiwan this week to reaffirm congressional support for this flourishing democracy, which stands in stark contrast to the authoritarian Chinese Communist Party in the Indo-Pacific region.
During my meetings with President Tsai and other senior Taiwan officials, we discussed U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade and investment, global supply chains, and other significant issues of mutual interest.
Hoosiers share many values with the people of Taiwan. In 1978, Indianapolis became Taipei’s first sister city in the U.S. A year later, the state of Indiana and Taiwan formed a sister-state relationship.
Taiwan is a friend to the United States and to Hoosiers, and I look forward to working with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to do whatever we can to broaden and strengthen the U.S.-Taiwan relationship.
