Inspired by the Sullivan Community

Image

I stopped by Sullivan on Monday to receive an update on recovery efforts following Friday night’s tornado. This community’s response to such tragedy is truly inspiring.

I have been in contact with FEMA and state officials since this weekend. As the situation is assessed in the counties impacted, I will continue working with federal and state partners to ensure these areas have the support they need.

Please keep these Hoosiers in your prayers.

My Bill to Repeal 1991, 2002 AUMFs Passes Senate

Image

Last week, the Senate passed bipartisan legislation I authored with Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) and formally end the Gulf and Iraq wars. The legislation passed the Senate 66 to 30.

The vote to repeal the 1991 and 2002 AUMFs comes after the 20th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom and marks the first time in over five decades that Congress has voted to repeal an AUMF. Passage of this bill with strong bipartisan support takes us one step closer to restoring the proper role of Congress in authorizing military force and affirmatively stating when conflicts are over. A broad and diverse coalition in the House supports this legislation, and I am hopeful the bill will receive prompt consideration.

Prior to the final Senate vote, I spoke on the Senate floor. My remarks are available here.

Marine Corps League Dinner in Plainfield

Image

Last weekend, more than 100 Marines visited Plainfield for the Marine Corps League Central Division Spring Conference. I had a great time visiting with these patriots and talking about my own experiences in the Marines. Thanks to all these Marines and their families for their years of service.

Senate Votes to Overturn Biden Administration’s WOTUS Rule

Last week, I joined a bipartisan majority of senators in voting for a resolution to overturn President Biden’s overreaching Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

The EPA’s decision to rewrite the WOTUS rule will create red tape for Hoosier farmers and builders who need regulatory clarity. This unnecessary bureaucratic overreach is misguided, and the Biden Administration should abandon these unfair, confusing, and costly regulations.

The legislation passed the Senate 53-43 after passing the House of Representatives earlier last month. It now goes to the President’s desk.
