Update on the PASTEUR Act

Antimicrobial resistance has become a growing crisis in recent years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Antibiotic Resistance Threats in the United States report, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur in the U.S. each year, and at least 35,000 people die as a result. Market failures have resulted in a lack of needed research and development in this field which is a threat to public health.

I’ve introduced the PASTEUR Act to expand the pipeline for next generation antibiotics and help save lives. In this video, I shared an update on how the bill would help Hoosiers.

Terre Haute Resident Attends Indian Prime Minister’s Address

Image

Last week, Terre Haute resident Santhana Naidu attended Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to a joint session of Congress as my guest.

Santhana serves as Vice President for Communications and Marketing at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He was born in Coimbatore, India, and moved to the United States in 1996 to pursue higher education. He has lived in Indiana for more than 25 years and became a United States citizen in 2017. Santhana was the 2019-20 Governor of Rotary International's southern Indiana clubs. He has been a member of the Terre Haute Rotary Club since 2004 and has also served on the Terre Haute Human Relations Commission and the Union Hospital Foundation.

I invited Santhana to attend to represent Rose-Hulman and in recognition of his service to Rotary International. As the United States seeks to deepen our relationship with India, it was an honor to have Santhana representing Indian-American Hoosiers at the Capitol for this historic address.

Protecting U.S. Economic, National Security from CCP Market Manipulation

I sent a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler outlining concerns related to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) manipulation of global financial markets and evasion of U.S. financial regulators. In light of these concerns, the letter also encourages the SEC to consider additional steps to protect American markets, shareholders, and our economic and national security.

American investors, fiduciaries, and publicly-traded firms with operations, supply chains, and business arrangements in both mainland China and Hong Kong often experience a lack of transparency, fraudulent behaviors, and arbitrary threats at the hands of the CCP. Without proper protections in place, malign CCP actions are a risk to American investors and firms as well as our nation’s economic and national security.
