Academy Day on August 15

Image

High school students interested in learning more about America’s service academies are invited to attend my upcoming Academy Day on Tuesday, August 15 at the Indiana National Guard Lawrence Armory. This meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the admissions process and what life is like at the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Representatives from each academy will be on hand to answer questions.

For more information, please email academy_nominations@young.senate.gov or visit my website.

Bipartisan Bill to Expand Access to Artificial Intelligence Research

Recent major leaps in artificial intelligence (AI) provide great promise, but also have caused some to highlight potential risks to society. The United States cannot cede leadership in AI development, and we must harness the great potential the technology offers in order to reap its benefits and combat any potential risks.

To help meet this goal, I recently joined with a bipartisan group of senators to introduce the CREATE AI Act. This bipartisan legislation would establish the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) as a shared national research infrastructure to provide AI researchers and students with greater access to the complex resources, data, and tools needed to develop safe and trustworthy artificial intelligence.

The CREATE AI Act would help democratize AI safety research and serve as a testbed for the development and implementation of innovative AI practices.

Happy 200th Birthday, Oliver Morton!

We recently marked Oliver Morton’s 200th birthday. Morton served as the 14th Governor of Indiana, and his leadership helped preserve the Union during the Civil War. Morton later represented Indiana in the United States Senate.

Senator Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and I introduced a resolution to honor Morton’s life, and his statue represents Indiana in the National Statuary Hall Collection. Read our resolution here.
