NHanced Semiconductors Ribbon-Cutting

Image

Last Friday, I was honored to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for NHanced Semiconductors, an advanced packaging foundry located at the WestGate Technology Park near NSWC Crane.

NHanced is the latest semiconductor company to invest in Indiana following passage of my CHIPS and Science Act, which in part sought to reshore chip production and packaging to the United States.

The NHanced advanced package assembly line is designed as part of WestGate One – a multi-company complex that will be the first semiconductor foundry in the United States built specifically for advanced package manufacturing. NHanced will be the anchor tenant, along with three other semiconductor companies, at the ten-acre public-private development. The combined companies of WestGate One are expected to create more than 500 high-tech jobs with average salaries of more than $100k/year.

Critical Minerals Security Act

The Chinese Communist Party is aggressively attempting to monopolize critical mineral resources, and the United States urgently needs to diversify our supply chain and strengthen ties with our allies. I recently joined several of my colleagues in introducing the Critical Minerals Security Act, which would help the U.S. secure access to critical mineral supply chains and counter Chinese dominance in the industry.

Our legislation would respond to China’s actions by better tracking global mineral reserves and devising a national strategy for advancing mining technologies and international cooperation. The bill directs the U.S. Department of the Interior to evaluate the global supply and ownership of critical minerals operations in foreign countries, and develop a method for sharing intellectual property for clean mining and processing technologies with U.S. allies and partners. To help address existing information gaps, the Critical Minerals Security Act will also require the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to submit a report to Congress no later than one year after enactment and subsequently every two years, detailing all critical mineral and rare earth element resources internationally.

There is no greater cause than giving a voice to the voiceless, and I will continue to support policies that affirm the right to life and support the unborn.
