Teachers make an impact that lasts a lifetime.

This week, we celebrate and recognize our Hoosier teachers who are inspiring and educating the next generation. Thank you to all the outstanding teachers across Indiana who are making a difference in the lives of Hoosier students.

It was great to see members of the Indiana Rural Broadband Association last week. These Hoosier broadband companies provide a vital connection to the most rural parts of Indiana.

Demanding the Biden Administration Reject Unacceptable WHO Agreements

I joined with the Senate Republican conference in sending a letter to President Biden calling for his Administration to withdraw its support for two international agreements being considered at this month’s World Health Assembly that, if adopted, would give the dysfunctional World Health Organization (WHO) more authority and potentially weaken United States sovereignty.

Our letter highlights the WHO’s abysmal COVID-19 response and argues that the President should be focusing on badly needed reforms instead of plowing ahead with international treaties and regulations that would substantially increase WHO authority, shred intellectual property rights, and infringe on freedom of speech.

Protecting Children from Lead Poisoning

Lead hazards in a home pose serious health and safety threats. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, lead hazards such as dust and chips from deteriorated lead-based paint are the most common source of lead exposure for U.S. children.

I joined Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in introducing the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act, which would require the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to update its lead poisoning prevention measures to reflect modern science and ensure that families and children living in federally-assisted housing are protected from the devastating consequences of lead poisoning. Under HUD’s current regulations, visual assessments are used to identify the presence of lead in a housing unit, while modern scientific research has proven that such assessments are profoundly inadequate for identifying the most common sources of lead paint in a home. This bill would help ensure the health and safety of our children by improving federal lead poisoning detection and prevention measures.
