Costly Biden Housing Mandate Must Be Repealed

Too many Hoosier families are experiencing difficulty finding affordable housing.

Senator Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and I recently introduced the HOUSE Act, which would repeal a Biden Administration mandate related to energy standards that would significantly increase the cost of certain new homes.

Earlier this year, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a Final Determination on energy efficiency standards for new construction of HUD- and USDA-financed housing. The new mandate requires that all new single-family housing construction financed through the agencies meet the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code standards.

Our bill will repeal this new mandate from the Biden Administration that will unnecessarily drive up housing costs even further.

Hoosiers Training for the Modern Workforce in Fort Wayne

Image

I recently visited Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne where Hoosiers of all ages and backgrounds are being equipped with the skills needed to excel in the modern workforce, including trades and advanced manufacturing.

I was particularly impressed to see specific examples of how the CHIPS and Science Act is being incorporated into studies and research on campus.

Additionally, I had a productive conversation with northeast Indiana members of the Indiana Manufacturers Association.

We discussed workforce development, Indiana's vital role in global manufacturing, and the importance of affordable child care options.
