Helping Hoosiers

In 2024, our team helped more than 2,500 Hoosiers resolve cases involving federal agencies, resulting in more than $12.1 million being returned to Indiana taxpayers.

When Hoosiers are improperly denied benefits they are owed or when the federal bureaucracy is moving too slowly, inquiries from members of Congress can kickstart the process. Our team is always committed to helping Hoosiers resolve issues involving federal agencies.

Hoosiers who think they may need help with a federal agency can visit here for more information. You also can call our team at (812) 542-4820.

Meeting with President Trump's Nominees

Image

Last month, I had great conversations with several of President Trump's nominees, including Secretary of Commerce nominee Howard Lutnick, nominee to be Administrator of the Small Business Administration Senator Kelly Loeffler, Secretary of State nominee Senator Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Transportation nominee Congressman Sean Duffy.

I am confident that Howard's impressive background will enable him to hit the ground running, driving economic growth and innovation while ensuring the U.S. remains a global leader in AI and other emerging technologies.

Senator Kelly has demonstrated leadership in both the business world and Congress. She is the ideal advocate for America's small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy.

Senator Rubio brings the foreign policy expertise and sound judgment we need in these challenging times. I look forward to collaborating with him in his new role.

Finally, Congressman Duffy has a deep understanding of the needs of both small towns and large cities, as well as the transportation industry. I look forward to working with him to support the Crossroads of America.

Committee Assignments for the 119th Congress

Committee assignments for the 119th Congress were recently announced.

For the first time, I was selected to serve on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. This committee was created by the Senate in 1976 to “oversee and make continuing studies of the intelligence activities and programs of the United States Government,” and to “provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States.”

As a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer, I have a deep appreciation for our dedicated intelligence professionals and the importance of unbiased intelligence to our national security. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to ensure policymakers are receiving the best intelligence possible as they make critical decisions.

I will continue to serve on the Senate Committee on Finance; the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. The Senate Finance Committee will play a pivotal role in tax reform efforts next year.

I’m honored to continue my work on these committees to tackle the issues most important to Hoosiers, including stimulating economic growth, reducing costs for families, and ensuring America maintains global leadership in technology.

Veto of JUDGES Act is Partisan Politics at its Worst

Recently, President Biden vetoed the Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved (JUDGES) Act of 2024, legislation that I introduced to address judicial emergencies and shortages across the country.

The JUDGES Act would address judicial emergencies and shortages across the country by increasing the number of federal district judges in the most overworked regions of the country, including the Southern District of Indiana. The bill passed Congress with strong bipartisan support in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

This misguided decision was just another example of why Americans are counting down the days until President Biden leaves the White House. Issuing this veto was partisan politics at its worst. The JUDGES Act is a fair bill with strong bipartisan support that would have created 66 judgeships over three presidential terms to address our judicial backlog.

The President is more enthusiastic about using his office to provide relief to his family members who received due process than he is about giving relief to the millions of regular Americans who are waiting years for their due process. Biden’s legacy will be "pardons for me, no justice for thee."
