Protecting Victims of Deepfake Imagery

We are increasingly seeing instances where generative AI is used to create exploitative images of an individual based on a clothed image. I joined with Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) to introduce the TAKE IT DOWN Act, legislation that would criminalize the publication of non-consensual, sexually exploitative images—including AI-generated deepfakes—and require platforms to remove images within 48 hours of notice.

This bipartisan bill builds on existing federal law to protect Americans, particularly young women, from harmful deepfakes and establishes a requirement for websites to take down this type of explicit and disturbing material. This is a sensible step to protect Americans and establish appropriate guardrails.

2025 March for Life

Image

I enjoyed spending time with Hoosier students from Fort Wayne who participated in the March for Life here in Washington. Thank you for standing up for the sanctity of human life.

Prior to this year's march, I led an effort with Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to ensure that the First Amendment rights of these pro-life Americans were respected while they visited our nation’s capital.

During the 2023 March for Life, individuals identifying as pro-life – including students and children – faced harassment and discrimination from Smithsonian Institution employees and security officers at the National Archives Museum.

Ahead of this year’s March for Life, Senator Cruz and I wrote to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and the Archivist of the United States asking for assurances that similar conduct will not occur again.

Protecting Small Business Owners

I joined Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) in reintroducing the Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act, legislation to overturn the inaptly named Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and protect small business owners. The CTA requires individuals with an ownership interest in a limited liability company (LLC) to disclose personal data with the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. Failure to comply could result in up to two years of jail time and a $10,000 fine per violation.

CTA requirements went into effect on January 1, 2024, but implementation is currently paused while the legality of the CTA’s requirements is being argued in the federal courts.

Current government reporting requirements are increasing costs for small businesses and adding unnecessary strain. Our bill will stop this bureaucratic overreach.
