Restoring Trust in Public Health Institutions

Image

I recently had a great conversation with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee. We discussed a number of topics, including restoring trust in public health institutions, encouraging innovation to lower health care costs, and improving research on Long COVID. Watch our conversation here

Mr. Kennedy’s unique leadership on healthy lifestyle choices will benefit countless Americans, and he understands the critical importance of rebuilding trust in our public health institutions. I’ve also received assurances from him that strong pro-life policies will continue to be reinstituted at HHS under his leadership. We spoke extensively about the importance of supporting innovation in health care to both bring down costs and improve treatment. I look forward to working with him to make positive changes for the American people.

I recently spoke with Kelly Loeffler, President Trump's nominee to be Administrator of the Small Business Administration, about keeping small businesses competitive during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

I enjoyed meeting with members of the Indiana Sheriffs' Association to discuss their legislative priorities.

Improving Severe Weather Forecasting

I joined Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) in reintroducing the Tornado Observation Research Notification and Deployment to Operations (TORNADO) Act, which would improve the forecasting of tornadoes and other hazardous weather. The TORNADO Act would also encourage the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to update its methods for predicting and communicating weather alerts to residents.

The TORNADO Act would require NOAA to implement new technology and procedures for severe weather alerts. The updates could help increase the warning lead times provided to the public before storms strike.

While we can’t prevent storms from occurring, the TORNADO Act will improve severe weather forecasting, notifying the public faster and allowing Hoosiers to find safety more quickly. This bill will better protect communities in Indiana and across the nation when severe weather comes.
